Hi, I’m Helen and welcome to my Blog ‘ The Walking Traveller ‘.

My home base is Victoria, Australia.

I love walking, hiking, either along a Beach , Bush Track or along The Long and Winding Road. Whether it is a day walk or on multi day hike, I love them all. The friends I have made from all parts of our beautiful world out on the trail has been amazing. All with a common thread to see the world, challenge themselves, step out of their comfort zone, to feel, hear, smell and sense the surrounds and leave their footprints in the world .

I’m a Wife, Mother and Nan, who in late 2013 made a life changing decision to walk the Camino De Santiago (field of stars) in the 2014 European Spring. This was significant for me and my family as the distance was not something I had ever imagined I could do. So, with a heart full of apprehension, walking across Spain I did.

Well… let me tell you at the end of the 800km I was awestruck! I had fallen in love with Long Distant Walking

I had previously walked smaller trails e.g. Mule trails of Provence France, Cinque Terra Italy (several times) The Hilltop towns of Tuscany, Piedmont – Barolo area Italy, Siena to Florence, Italy and several smaller training walks, so I’ve always had an interest in walking but the Camino De Santiago was a completely life changing moment and now I am wanting to walk and travel as much as I can. So, in 2015 I was off again and I was walking on the Via Francigina – from Lucca to Rome.

WELCOME to my blog thewalkingtraveller.com where I will share my love of walking, photography, people I meet and my Travellers Tales.

Come join me, THE WALKING TRAVELLER on my adventures around the world.
